Vision 1: IP-TrainEKE-Electronics Ltd.'s vision is that, due to ever increasing amount of data managed by train information systems, IP/Ethernet-based train networks will become the industry standard in the next 5-10 years, and replace traditional train networks. EKE-Electronics Ltd. has a technically feasible solution for the dynamic configuration of the trains. International standardization will take some more years to follow. Vision 2: One system for all data communicationFuture train communication networks, train management systems, event recorders, passenger information systems, digital voice announciator systems, video surveillance and other non-safety critical, intelligent subsystems will be based on one system platform. This reduces the actual number of separate subsystems and strongly contributes to reliability. Simultaneously one-platform-approach radically reduces the system cost and time on system design and configuration. This system platform can integrate both Ethernet/IP-based and standard TCN-based functionalities into one system. Vision 3: Lower life-cycle costThe life-cycle cost of rolling stock investments will be an ever more important decision-making criterion. The life-cycle cost includes elements such as system cost, ease of system design and configuration, reliability, maintainability, through-life support, spare parts availability, and cost of mid-life overhaul. |
